THE LAST DAYS OF DETROIT *
Project Scope: Publication
The Last Days of Detroit by Mark Binelli, centres around Detroit, a city that once enjoyed its golden age both economically and socially, outpacing other cities and attracting people seeking brighter futures. However, as the book progresses, it illustrates how the city became one of the biggest downfalls the country has ever experienced. Utilising black and white imagery to contrast different periods, reinforces the shift in mood among the city's inhabitants.
Throughout the narratives, there are elements of suspense and discomfort. Buildings are destroyed and abandoned, and streets are empty almost asserting that not a single soul is nearby. The publication also utilises translucent paper, extracting the letters from the paragraphs. The letters on the translucent paper also form its message. The added element allows the readers to be absorbed into the scene and engaged with the story.
